BREAKING: Broken Gas Line Prompted Temporary Evacuation of Blackhawk Building

The flow of gas was stopped soon after fire officials arrived.

BLACKHAWK, CA: A gas line was ruptured inside a building's attic in unincorporated Blackhawk this morning, according to utility and fire officials. The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District first reported the incident at 4135 Blackhawk Plaza Circle at 8:39 a.m. today.

There was work occurring at a privately owned location that caused damage to a gas line that does not belong to PG&E, utility spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said. Battalion Chief Jim Selover said one engine responded and an evacuation of the building was temporarily ordered, but the situation was declared under control within around 10 minutes.

A PG&E gas representative responded for an inspection of the broken line at 9:03 a.m. The flow of gas had already been stopped at that time, Sarkissian said. The building's owner will be responsible for repairing the gas line before gas service is returned there, Sarkissian said. Any gas leaks can be reported to PG&E at (800) 743-5000.
