Weapon on Monte Vista Campus Turns Out to be Pocketknife

The reported weapon on the campus of that Danville Police responded to last week turned out to be a pocketknife, Police Chief Steve Simpkins said.

The incident took place on . Simpkins said the incident was non-violent and that someone had seen the knife and reported it to the police.

Though it is considered an infraction, the student wasn't cited but diverted by police officers to the Danville Police station.

Diversion is a method the police department uses for students involved in minor incidences and for non-habitual offenders of these minor incidences. Diversions can translate into writing a report about the incident or washing police cars, Simpkins said. (Look for a future story about the departments diversion program in Danville Patch.)

A knife with a blade 2.5 inches or longer is considered an infraction.
