Capitol Comment: Huff Talks State of the State and Early Prison Release

The following Capitol Comment is courtesy of Sen. Bob Huff's office.

Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar) offers his review of the Governor's State of the State Address to the State Legislature in his Capitol Comment for the week of January 20, 2014. Senator Huff believes while there are many things to like in the Governor's address, other items deserve a closer look.

He points out that although the Governor lauded the creation of one million new jobs since the end of the California recession, it glosses over the fact that two million jobs were lost during the downturn. The California unemployment rate, currently at 8.3 percent, is still higher than the national average and still far too high for California standards.

Senator Huff also questions whether the Governor's early prison release plan has really been as successful as the Governor claimed. Property crime rates are up for the first time in 20 years, and much of that increase has been tied to the Governor's early prison release program.

Senator Huff serves as the Senate Republican Leader and represents the 29th Senate District covering portions of Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino Counties.
