Diamond Bar Mayor Ling-Ling Chang has less than a month's time left holding that title, as it's time for the city council to appoint someone to the next year-long term.

The city council will vote amongst themselves at tonight's 6:30 p.m. meeting and decide who will be mayor in 2013, according to a council agenda and city representatives.

It's up to the five councilmembers to nominate and vote for one of themselves to hold the leadership position for 2013.  They will also elect a mayor pro tem, who carries out the mayor's responsibilities in his or her absence.

Currently, Ling-Ling Chang holds the mayoral title, having first been elected to the council in 2009.  It is her first term as mayor.

In the city's 23-year history no mayor has been elected to serve two consecutive terms, "but there is no policy in place that prohibits such a decision," city spokeswoman Cecilia Arellano told Patch.

Arellano said they're is no pre-indication as to whom will be selected this year.  Of the council members, all five have served as mayor as follows:

  • Mayor Ling-Ling Chang: 2012
  • Jack Tanaka: 2008
  • Ron Everett: 2009
  • Carol Herrera: 1998, 2004, 2006, 2010
  • Steve Tye: 2007, 2011

The "city council reorganization" is up first on the agenda.
