Underground Fire Shut Down Rowland Heights Intersection

An electrical fire that sent smoke billowing through a manhole cover in Rowland Heights shut down an intersection for a few hours, authorities said today.

It was reported at 5 p.m. and police closed the Northbound Nogales and Colima Road Intersection to allow Southern California Edison to conduct repairs, according to Officer Patrick Kimball of the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP was there for about 90 minutes, and the intersection was re- opened about 9 p.m., Sgt. Rob Blunt of Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Walnut Station said.
