Dixon Patch has learned that Dixon High School Atheletic Director Tom Crumpacker has resigned from his post as director.

Last week, Crumpacker sent a note to Dixon High School coaches informing them of his decision to leave the post he took on last year.

“He resigned as athletic director and that doesn’t impact his teaching role or anything like that,” Dixon Unified School District interim Superintendent Brian Dolan said, adding that the school will be posting the vacated position in the near future. “It was Tom’s decision and I worked with Tom for a lot of years and being an athletic director is among the most difficult jobs in any school district. I just appreciate the time and energy he spent over the years. Anybody who’s been an athletic director will tell you that you really probably don’t want to be one.”

Crumpacker’s tenure as athletic director was highlighted by controversies, most notably the decision to – a decision that Crumpacker said was made by DHS Principal John Barsotti – and accusations that he used

“In an e-mail he sent to coaches, he just said that it was time for him to make this move,” Dolan said. “To support them, he would be happy to do.”

Here is the letter Crumpacker sent to the coaches:

You will hear rumors or word that I have resigned as A.D. at DHS and it is true.  I wanted you to know in advance so you don’t have to hear it 2nd hand.  I want to commend all of you for having a fantastic sporting year last year and I want to commend all of you for what you do for DHS, the community of Dixon and mostly what you do for our youth.  Your “positive influence” makes a big difference in how many of our youth develop and what type of human beings they become.  Many of our youth will become coaches or work in some realm of education as a direct result of your positive influence.

Many will ask why I resigned or make statements as to why I resigned.  The simple answer is – it is time!  It is time for me to step aside and for some new blood to step in the door.  Please note, if you have questions, concerns, need clarification on athletic matters, etc…. I am happy to assist you in any way until a new A.D. is in place.  My goal is to assist our new A.D. to make the transition smooth and to help them help you.

I hope all of you are enjoying a good summer and a healthy summer.  Share time with your family and friends.

Thank you for allowing me to share time with you.

Tom Crumpacker

Dixon Unified School District Board of Education President Irina Okhremtchouk stated the new athletic director will be selected by Principal Barsotti and will be done through a competitive process.
