Deputies Recapture Inmate Who Escaped From Santa Rita Jail

Alameda County deputies have recaptured an inmate who escaped from the  in Dublin on Tuesday, a sergeant said.

Alameda County sheriff's Sgt. J.D. Nelson said Ismael Cesda was found in Fremont early Friday morning and was taken back to the Santa Rita jail.

Cesda, 21, also known as Ismael Ramirez, was discovered missing at about 11 p.m. Tuesday evening after having been brought back to the jail from court, according to Nelson.

Cesda managed to get to an area of the jail where inmates are released, but officials do not know how that happened.

Cesda, a Pleasanton resident, had been arrested in Fremont on Saturday night on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle and evading police, said Fremont police Detective Bill Veteran.

Cesda and five other people, including three juveniles, led Fremont police on a car chase in a Toyota Highlander that had been reported stolen by Dublin Toyota, Veteran said.

The Highlander ran into a curb near Fremont Boulevard and Thornton Avenue. All six suspects ran away from the scene, he said.

The police arrested all of them, and the three juveniles were released into the custody of adult family members. The three adults, including Ramirez, were booked into the Fremont City Jail before being transferred to the Santa Rita Jail, Veteran said.
