IKEA Aims to Open in Dublin
The furnishings retailer has submitted a proposal to build a 339,000-square-foot store in Tri-Valley by 2018.
DUBLIN, CA: Driving to Emeryville or East Palo Alto to shop at IKEA may soon be a thing of the past for Tri-Valley shoppers. IKEA announced they have submitted a proposal for a 339,000-square-foot in Dublin. If approved, the store would open in 2018.
“We continue to be thrilled with the reception afforded us in the Bay Area, so we are excited about submitting plans for IKEA Dublin to extend our reach further into the East Bay,” said Lars Petersson, IKEA U.S. president aid in a statement. “This proposed store would complement the presence in Emeryville and East Palo Alto, providing Tri-Valley customers their own store.”
Mayor David Haubert said he is not able to comment on the proposal on the city council agenda this evening.
“From what I have been told, IKEA was given approval by a former council but backed out before purchasing the land. At this time, they have purchased the land and seem to be proceeding where they left off.”
The furnishings retailer is aiming to build on 21 acres at the northwestern corner of Interstate 580 and Hacienda Drive and would feature a supervised children’s play area and restaurant.
“I encourage anyone who is interested to hear more about the proposed IKEA project to attend or watch our council meeting tonight," Haubert said. "This is the start of the process.”
There are 41 IKEA stores in the U.S.
