Eagle Rock Patch is Two Years Old

We celebrate our second birthday with a look at our relationship with readers—and our shared stake in Eagle Rock.

Eagle Rock Patch is Two Years Old

Two is the first prime number in mathematics, not to mention a “magic number” in physics. The number signifies a certain coming of age—and that’s how Eagle Rock Patch feels on its second anniversary today, Saturday.

We celebrated our first anniversary last year with this observation:

What’s truly astonishing about this milestone is how far we’ve come in terms of increasing our readership as well as developing a shared relationship as residents and stakeholders in Eagle Rock.

The term “stakeholders” has of course taken on a whole new meaning in Eagle Rock since scores, if not hundreds, of “outsiders” voted in last month’s elections to the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council.

Politics aside, Eagle Rock Patch’s relationship with its readers has been truly remarkable. In October, for example, the number of readers’ comments on the site totaled 4,551—more than a ten-fold increase over a year ago.

Whether the issue is medical marijuana, a controversy at Eagle Rock High School, or a new pizzeria, it’s clear that Eagle Rockers are passionate about what happens in their neighborhood.

And it’s that daily engagement—not just in the form of comments but as blogs, news tips and announcements about local events—that’s the lifeblood of this site.

A birthday is incomplete without a wish, so here’s one as we enter the third year of our mutual growth: Keep sending in those comments, critiques and ideas for improving Eagle Rock. It’s the only way for us to determine whether we’re living up to our promise.
