Rick McClure, a retired Los Angeles Fire Department captain and paramedic who has been shooting "emergency scene" incidents for more than 40 years (39 of them while off duty in the LA area before his retirement) took these photos of Sunday’s crash on the eastbound 134 freeway, during which a minivan with six people in it rolled off a precipice and landed onto Figueroa Street below. A man, a woman and a girl were pronounced dead at the scene—and a 55-year-old man succumbed to his injuries in hospital Monday.

McClure, who lives in Santa Clarita, last served with the LAFD’s new dispatch center in downtown Los Angeles. Besides working as a paramedic on rescue ambulances, he has been a firefighter on the department’s engines and truck companies. His photos have been published in the Los Angeles Times, Herald Examiner, Los Angeles Daily News, Signal, Associated Press, and numerous fire and Emergency Medical Services magazines.
