Rita Project Comes to Echo Park

Here's a chance to learn about mental health, suicide prevention and the arts community in a positive and creative space.

EXHIBIT THIS, a peer to peer open art studio with Kim Strouse of the Rita Project, is running through July 1 at Sancho in Echo Park.

Strouse and Sancho curator Dani Collins have teamed up to stop suicide and celebrate life this summer.

Strouse's one-month residency at Sancho will offer a number of programs to raise awareness of mental health issues including an artists workshop from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Wednesday in June.

There will also be an opening party on Saturday, June 9 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Strouse also offers weekly workshops in her space Downtown.

Ms. Strouse founded the Rita Project in 2001 after losing her younger sister. Her cathartic experience of building the nonprofit is influencing a global movement devoted to using the arts to help all beings connect by creating, and in doing so, foster transformation.
