SIlver Lake Indie Kids Bubbling Under The Charts

Indie darlings Local Natives prepare their next step.

SIlver Lake Indie Kids Bubbling Under The Charts

For all the local brouhaha about our very fertile indie-rock music scene, few of our acts that are born in these clubs and bars make it to a competitive national level. Worse, a lot of our bands get the cold shoulder from influential music markets strictly because of its connection to Los Angeles. Our artists can be viewed with suspicion with a simple description as “a new band from L.A.!”

Score one for the men next door who make up Local Natives, who quietly scored a surprisingly high 8.5 on Pitchfork with their debut LP.

They hit the road opening for reluctant Grammy superstars Arcade Fire and nabbed a member of the acclaimed New York City band The National to produce their upcoming follow-up LP, Hummingbird.

“Gorilla Manor”, their 2010 release, spent close to a year bubbling under the Billboard charts eventually landing in the bottom rung of the Top 200.

After a little hiatus building their own studio in their Silver Lake home, they’ve dropped a new song for you to listen to as they hit a winter jaunt overseas in support of Hummingbird.
