Weird Spongey Snail Eggs Could Doom Echo Park Plants

The apple snail is a parasitic creature that some park goers say is already chowing down on flowers.

Weird Spongey Snail Eggs Could Doom Echo Park Plants
An uninvited guest that looks like something out of a sci-fi movie has some worried about the plant life at Echo Park.

KTLA reports that shortly after the $45 million restoration effort to beautify the park was completed last year, little pinkish and spongey objects starting appearing on the lake's wall.

They were later determined to be eggs left behind by the parasitic apple snails that could be a threat to Echo Park's lotus flowers. Regular park goer Susan Espinosa told KTLA that she's already seen a drop-off in the local lotus population.

"It's very disappointing that they did all of this work only to find that all of the plants are going to die in the lake," she said.
