Kicked-in-Door Burglary, 3 Stolen Car Cases

The El Cerrito police blotter for Oct. 15-18 includes a home burglary where a side door was kicked in, another burglary where the victim and his dog were home asleep at the time, and three stolen vehicle cases, including one arrest.

October 15 

Vehicle Theft - Knott Avenue at Key Boulevard 
Officer Wong reports the theft of a 1991 Honda CRX between the hours 0955 and 1800 on 10/15. 

Vehicle Theft - 11200 block of San Pablo Avenue 
Officer Evans arrested a 31 year-old Richmond man for driving a stolen Toyota station wagon. The passenger, a 37 year-old Richmond man, was arrested for being in possession of stolen property. The driver was transported to the MDF and the passenger was released from the ECPD. 

October 16 

Residential Burglary – 5300 Block Potrero Avenue 
Officer Li reports unknown suspect(s) entered a residence by way of an unlocked patio door sometime after midnight and before 0600 hours this morning. The victim was home at the time but neither he nor his dog was awakened by the burglar. 

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia & Warrant Arrest – Jordan Ave & Ludwig Ave 
Cpl. Payne arrested a Richmond man after he was contacted during a suspicious vehicle check at 1:30 pm and found in possession of drug smoking paraphernalia. The man gave his brother’s name and date of birth when first contacted, however Cpl. Payne was able to locate information within the vehicle that contained his real name. A records check revealed that he had warrants from San Francisco for forgery and a local warrant for DUI. He was booked and then transported to Martinez Detention Facility. 

Residential Burglary – 2300 Block Mono 
Officer Strang reports a burglary occurred to a home between 0810 hours and 1135 hours. The suspect(s) kicked open a side door to gain entry. The amount of property taken appears to indicate more than one suspect was involved in the burglary. 

October 17 

Auto Theft – 900 Block Liberty St 
Officer Jacala reports an Infinity I-30 was stolen from a carport between 10/16 at 1900 hours and 10/17 at 0720 hours. The stolen vehicle was located in the afternoon parked in an apartment complex in Richmond. 

Automobile Burglary – 900 Block Pomona Ave 
Officer Jacala reports between 1010 hours and 1050 hours the suspect broke the right rear window to a Saturn parked at Cerrito Vista Park. The suspect stole a purse containing a cell phone and reading glasses. 

Possession of Stolen Property & Burglary Tools Arrest – 11299 San Pablo Ave 
Officer Li conducted a pedestrian stop on a man in the shopping center after Officer Li saw the man litter. Officer Li discovered that the man had a warrant for his arrest for auto theft and learned that the man was in possession of a shaved key (a common car theft tool). The man also had the registration and insurance card for a vehicle stolen from El Cerrito, earlier in the day. Officer Li arrested the man, booked him, and took him to County Jail. 

Warrant Arrest, Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance – 5700 Block of Jordan Ave 
Cpl. Payne stopped a suspicious vehicle, associated with her arrest from the previous day. She learned that the driver of the vehicle, a woman from Richmond, was driving on a suspended license. While she investigated, a second suspicious vehicle arrived. Officers investigated the occupants of the second vehicle and determined they were in possession of a fake gun and drug paraphernalia. The driver, a man from Richmond, was driving on a suspended license and the passenger, a man from Richmond, had four warrants for his arrest. The suspended drivers were released with tickets and the passenger was sent to County Jail. 

October 18 

Elder Abuse – 500 block of Liberty St. 
A visiting relative reported that their son’s girlfriend was physically assaulting them. El Cerrito Officers investigated the incident and coordinated their efforts with Adult Protective Services. 

Petty Theft with Priors – CVS, 670 El Cerrito Plaza 
Officer Purdy arrested a 37-year-old San Francisco man after he stole from the drug store. The man had previous convictions for theft, making this crime a felony. Officers took the man to county jail, after booking. 

Possession of Illegal Drugs – 11700 Block of San Pablo Ave. 
Officer Thepkaysone arrested a 32-year-old San Pablo woman for possession of suspected methamphetamine during a pedestrian contact. Officers released the woman pending analysis by the crime lab.
