Light Rail to Break Ground on CRC Expansion

The project is expected to cost $270 million and will bring light rail to Elk Grove's doorstep.

Commuters should be able to ride Sacramento Regional Transit's light rail from downtown Sacramento to Cosumnes River College by 2015, and the expansion necessary to take them there will start Wednesday morning.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday to start construction on two bridges that will eventually carry trains over Cosumnes River Boulevard and Morrison Creek. The ceremony will be held at the intersection of Cosumnes River Boulevard and Bruceville Road.

Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) is scheduled to speak at the event.

The project, part of Regional Transit's Blue Line, will cost $270 million and add 4.3 miles of track. The light rail's trip south currently ends at Meadowview Road.
