Old Town Ice Rink Will Open Sunday

An unspecified problem has delayed its opening.

Old Town Ice Rink Will Open Sunday

Update: The Old Town Elk Grove ice skating rink will open at 10 a.m. Sunday, missing the Dickens Faire crowds by one day, the city announced on its website.

Previous update:

The ice skating rink planned for Old Town Elk Grove won't open on time, city officials said Wednesday.

The rink was originally scheduled to open on Thanksgiving morning, but now it will likely open Saturday.

Rob Porter, the owner of Ice Unlimited, the company being contracted to operate the rink, said Wednesday he would need about three days to get the rink up and running.

City officials said more up-to-date information would be posted on the city's website,  http://www.elkgrovecity.org/icerink/. A new opening date has not been officially announced.

Original story:

Need something to tire out the kids before Thanksgiving dinner? An outdoor ice skating rink opens in Elk Grove Thursday morning, and will stay open through Jan. 21.

The rink opens at 10 a.m. and is open rain or shine, city spokeswoman Christine Brainerd said.

The rink is located in Old Town Elk Grove, south of Elk Grove Boulevard and just east of the railroad tracks, near Railroad Street. Tickets are $11 for adults and $9.50 for kids. Seniors (55 and older) and military servicemembers are $9.

In groups of 10 or more people, adults are $9 and children are $7.

Several free parking lots are available nearby: A map is attached to this article. A free shopper shuttle makes stops at the rink:  Check the city's website for details.

The rink will be closed Christmas Day, and will stay open until 1 a.m. on New Year's Eve. It closes at 10 p.m. every other day.
