All Aboard: Amtrak to Add Stops in Encinitas

Encinitas residents will no longer have to travel to Solana Beach to board the Pacific Surfliner.

Amtrak officials are putting the finishing touches on plans to add stops in Encinitas on the Pacific Surfliner’s schedule, according to an Amtrak spokeswoman.

Currently the train races across town, bypassing the station on the corner of Vulcan Avenue and D Street on its way to Solana Beach or Oceanside.

Details on when Encinitas service will begin and which trains will stop here have not been finalized, said Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham, but negotiations are under way.

“It will be coming soon,” Graham said.

The Surfliner will also add stops in Carlsbad Village, Carlsbad Poinsettia and Sorrento Valley. The Coaster commuter train also stops at those stations, as well as Encinitas.

A timetable that went into affect on April 1 includes trains that have scheduled stops listed in Encinitas, but Graham said those are placeholders in anticipation of the new service. That schedule is attached to this article in the PDF section.

The placeholders list three daily stops in Encinitas for both northbound and southbound trains, but Graham said those are subject to change.
