Bicyclist Injured in Encinitas Hit-And-Run

The collision sent the 41-year-old bicyclist to a hospital, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

ENCINITAS, CA — A bicyclist in Encinitas was hit by an SUV that left the scene Sunday morning, according to San Diego County Sheriff's officials.

The hit-and-run collision happened at 6:45 a.m. Sunday on eastbound Leucadia Boulevard, when a white SUV swerved into the dedicated bike lane, hit the bicyclist and kept on going eastbound, Deputy Michael Power said.

The 41-year-old man on the bike was still conscious when he was taken by ambulance to Scripps La Jolla hospital with serious injuries to his leg, face and lower back, Power said. The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

No suspect information was immediately available and the investigation was ongoing, according to Power.

The collision was being investigated by the North Coastal Sheriff's Station Traffic Division.
