UPDATE: 1 Killed, 1 Critical After Shooting at Tarzana House

UPDATE 11:12 a.m. Sunday -- One victim died, according to City News Service.

----

11:18 p.m. Saturday

A quiet, upscale neighborhood in Tarzana south of Ventura Boulevard was the scene of a multiple shooting Saturday night.

A man and a woman were taken to Northridge Medical Center and listed in critical condition after officers responded to a report of shots fired around 7:30 p.m. at a home on the 4600 block of Vanalden Avenue, according to Capt. Ivan Minsal of the Los Angeles Police Department. A third person identified only as a male was detained at the scene and taken into custody as a suspect, Minsal said.

"We’re holding this as a crime scene. We’ve been interviewing some relatives that have been responding to this home tonight," Minsal told Patch at the scene. "As we get further into the night we’ll have a better picture of what occurred here. All we know is it’s a domestic violence related call."

The scene of the shooting is a large two-story home on a hill with a gate out front located in an upscale neighborhood lined with multi-million dollar homes. At least four vehicles were parked in the driveway. Minsal described the home as very "neatly kept" but declined to say who owned it or if any of the victims or the suspected shooter lived there.

Minsal, who is a captain with the LAPD Van Nuys Division but was on loan for the weekend to the West Valley Division, which patrols Tarzana, said that police have not identified anyone else who may have been present during the shooting.

"There may have been somebody else [present], there may have been more, but our preliminary facts are that there were three people here," Minsal said.

Minsal declined to give any specific details about the identities, ages or races of the victims and the suspected shooter or the type of weapon that was used.
