Add Some Pilates to Your Spinning Classes

Breakaway Indoor Cycling combines both techniques for cardio and strength training.

Breakaway Indoor Cycling, located at the on Ventura Boulevard, has taken Spinning to another level by adding a Pilates component to its workout sessions.

Breakaway instructor and co-owner Joshua Smith told Patch about the benefits of this particular exercise combination. (Click on the video above to hear Smith talk about the workout, along with his tips on the proper form for Spinning.)

"Our No. 1 thing here is to make sure people are healthy, getting in shape and doing it correctly," said Smith.

The personalized Spinning classes on offer are small, said Smith, so that instructors and students are fully engaged and able to perfect their cycling performance. The Spin instructors are all Pilates-certified, and classes are open to individuals of all levels.

"I've lost weight and I've toned up," said Tarzana resident Pam Stone, who takes the Pilates-Spinning classes at the center. "I've actually thrown away my fat jeans!"
