11 Students Stung At Fallbrook Junior High School

Two of the Potter Junior High School students were taken to a hospital for allergic reactions to the bee stings.

FALLBROOK, CA – Nearly a dozen students were stung by a swarm of bees Thursday at Potter Junior High School in Fallbrook.

The attack happened around 9:30 a.m. when the students ran by a beehive during their physical education class, according to North County Fire Protection District. The students did not know the beehive was there and they did not disturb the hive, officials said.

After escaping the swarm, 11 children were treated for bee stings at the school nurse's office. Two of the students were then taken to a hospital for allergic reactions.

School staffers cordoned off the area around the hive and called in a bee-eradication service to remove the colony from the campus, officials said.
