Fair Oaks Chicken Festival 2012: What to Expect

The Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District is hoping to build on the successful event, which attracted more than 15,000 participants in 2011.

Last year, locals from around Sacramento enjoyed a range of activities ranging from sampling food from local vendors, live music, games and activities for the kids and, of course, hanging out with Fair Oaks' most notable members, the chickens.

District Recreation Superintendent Katy Albers explained attendees this year can expect much of the same, with the additions of two new bands,  Todd Morgan & The Emblems and Papas Garage. Rounding out the live music line-up  Hired Guns and  Mumbo Gumbo will return to the Fair Oaks stage as well.

The Fair Oaks Chicken Festival is a celebration of the community's rural history and present village atmosphere.

Today the Fair Oaks chickens enjoy the freedom and hospitality of their village home. They have been the subject of television and radio stories as well as local newspaper and magazine articles. In short, they are a part of Fair Oaks' history and lore. Some love them, some curse them, but the chickens are a very real part of everyday life in The Village.

The Chicken Festival begins bright and early Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. and lasts till 6 p.m.

There is no charge for admission; however, $5 wristbands are available for children's activities, which include bouncers, slide, carnival games and one face painting. Wristbands can be purchased at the event.
