Man Identified in Anaheim Gang Related Homicide, Police Say

A Santa Ana man whose body was found in a dumpster was identified in what local officials are calling a gang-related homicide, police say.

ANAHEIM, CA — A man who was found dead in an Anaheim industrial park in what police believe was a gang-related homicide was identified on Tuesday as Brian Mendez, a 26-year-old resident of Santa Ana.

Mendez was shot at least once, according to Sgt. Daron Wyatt, who said the victim's body was found near a trash bin about 6:30 a.m. Monday at 16oo block of S. Sinclair Street.

Raymond Berry, a business owner in the industrial park, told reporters that a surveillance camera on the outside of his building captured images of the body being dumped just before midnight by someone who pulled up in a "Suburban-style vehicle" without license plates.

"It showed him getting out and ... starting to (pull the body out)," he said. "It kicked off on the part when he was removing the body and it went back on when he was pulling away."

He said the surveillance images have been turned over to police who are still investigating.
