Woman Slams Into Cop Car During Chase: Police

Charges include assault w/ a weapon on a peace officer and one count each of vandalism, theft with a prior felony conviction of car theft.

SANTA ANA, CA - A 21-year-old woman was charged Wednesday with ramming a stolen sedan into a squad car during a police pursuit in Santa Ana.

Daisy Oropeza faces two counts of assault with a weapon on a peace officer and one count each of vandalism, theft with a prior felony conviction of stealing a vehicle and evading police, all felonies, along with a misdemeanor count of driving without a valid license.

"When police attempted a routine traffic stop Tuesday in the 500 block of South Sullivan Street, the defendant refused to pull over and led them on a 25-minute chase that ended in a cul de sac," Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

Two officers in a squad car had her cornered, but Oropeza punched the gas and slammed the stolen 1992 Honda Accord she was driving into the police car, Bertagna alleged.

The officers were not seriously injured.

Oropeza has previous run-ins with the law, according to court records.

She pleaded guilty on Nov. 10, 2014, to a felony auto theft charge and misdemeanor possession of burglary tools.

She was sentenced to 90 days in jail and placed on three years of informal probation, court records show.
