Nearly 200 prospective and incoming students gathered in-person for an afternoon of socializing and crafting for California Connections Academy’s second annual open house on September 19 at the school’s teaching center in Ripon, Calif.
At the welcome event, students created their own “keys to success” with lanyards or beaded chains, and submitted their five-year goals to the school’s “reach for the stars” poster. Younger students practiced the alphabet with clay or shaving cream letters, while teachers guided students through making origami boxes, among other crafts.
Now in its second school year, California Connections Academy @ Ripon, a tuition-free online public school serving K-12 students in Alameda, Amador, Calaveras, Contra Costa, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Santa Clara and Stanislaus counties, is currently accepting students for the 2013-14 school year.
Chartered through Ripon Unified School District, California Connections Academy gives students a flexible learning environment with a challenging curriculum that meets rigorous state education standards and is taught by state-credentialed teachers. Students at all grade levels socialize through group labs, clubs and activities; school-sponsored events and field trips; and LiveLesson® sessions, virtual classrooms sessions where students can communicate in real time with peers and teachers.
