Robbery Suspect Holes Up in Gilroy Hotel Room Before Surrendering to Police
A man suspected of pulling an armed robbery in Vacaville was arrested Thursday after he refused to leave a motel room in Gilroy he shared with three women and three children, according to Gilroy police.

Gilroy police were called at 10:18 a.m. Thursday by Vacaville police about an armed robbery suspect who might be holed up at the Motel 6 at 6110 Monterey Road in Gilroy, police Sgt. Joseph Deras.

Officers went to the motel joined by Vacaville police, a U.S. Marshal and deputies from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's office, Deras said.

The armed robbery suspect, whose name has not been released, did not cooperate when officers told him to come out of his motel room, where three women and three children were also inside, Deras said.

After negotiators communicated with the suspect, he surrendered and was arrested by Vacaville police, Deras said.

Police also detained the three women and took custody of the children, Deras said.

According to Deras, police did not locate any weapons during a search of the suspect's room.

Officers also looked for another male suspect and conducted a room-to-room search of the motel, Deras said.

The California Highway Patrol furnished an aircraft to fly over the scene to assist officers during the incident, Deras said.
