Baby Boy Surrendered at Glendora Hospital

The newborn is the fifth infant to be surrendered this year.

A newborn baby was safely surrendered at a hospital in Glendora Monday, according to the Los Angeles County Safe Surrender Program.

The baby boy is in protective custody and will be placed with a family for adoption by the Department of Children and Family Services.

The hospital’s exact location in Glendora was not immediately disclosed.

The program allows anyone to surrender an infant no more than three days old - no questions asked - as long as the infant shows no signs of abuse.

According to a press release, Monday’s surrender is the fifth Safe Surrender in Los Angeles County in 2012. There have been 94 safe surrenders since the program was initiated by County Supervisor Don Knabe and approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in 2001.
