Bear Sighted Near Homes in San Dimas

A bear sighting in a residential neighborhood in San Dimas today prompted sheriff's deputies to summon state Department of Fish and Game officials, who tranquilized the animal and removed it from the area.

The bear, which was spotted around 1 a.m. by residents at 808 Baseline Road, near San Dimas Canyon Road, climbed a tree, said Lt. Andy Berg of the Los Angeles County sheriff's San Dimas Station.

Deputies left the scene around 2 a.m. after calling in Fish and Game wardens, Berg said.

Fish and Game personnel tranquilized the animal and removed it from the scene after daybreak, according to the Sheriff's Department.
