The coroner's office on Sunday identified two Ontario men found dead in a vehicle that plunged nearly 800 feet over the side of a mountain road in the Angeles Crest area.
They were identified as Sergio Omar Partida, 22, and Andrew Steven Barrios, 21, said coroner's Lt. Larry Dietz.
Investigators don't know when it happened, but the initial call was at 8 a.m. on Glendora Ridge Road, five miles west of Mt. Baldy Road, according to CHP Officer Patrick Kimball.
Search and rescue personnel reached the vehicle at 11:15 a.m. and confirmed that two people were dead at the scene, he said.
It was believed Partida was driving his 2002 Acura with Barrios in the right front passenger seat, when Partida lost control of the car on a left curve in the roadway, investigating CHP Officer J. Duran said.
"The Acura continued traveling in a westerly direction, through a dirt turn out and down an embankment where it overturned several times," Duran said.
"Partida and Barrios were wearing their seatbelts however, both parties were ejected and they sustained fatal injuries," he said.
"It is still under investigation at this time whether alcohol or drugs are a factor in this traffic collision," Duran said.
