Man Breaks Into Area Home, Terrorizes Family While Tripping on Meth

A 37-year-old man who allegedly armed himself with a metal stake and terrorized a Covina family while hallucinating on methamphetamine was in that city's jail tonight awaiting a Tuesday court appearance, according to Los Angeles County sheriff inmate records.

Jeffrey Benjamin Jimenez, 37, was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and burglary after breaking into a home in the 1300 block of North Glenfinnan Avenue at about 10 a.m. Saturday and threatening to kill the family inside, said Covina police Lt. Ric Wolczak.

Jimenez was high on methamphetamine and talked about wanting to kill a nephew whom he believed was inside the home, Wolczak said.

"He was hallucinating," he said.

Jimenez had taken the metal stake holding up a yard sale sign in the neighborhood and armed himself with it when he entered the family's home, according to Wolczak.

The family escaped and called police who arrested Jimenez, the lieutenant said.

Bail for Jimenez was set at $100,000.
