Police arrested a man Tuesday morning after being accused of theft and evading officers by running onto the onramp of the 57 freeway.

Arrested was Stephen Garcia, 41, from San Dimas, on suspicion of felony theft and evading officers. Garcia was held in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Police received a call from employees around 11 a.m. of a theft in progress. An officer was reportedly already on scene and attempted to approach the suspect near the garden area as he exited, according to scanner reports.

The man ran from the officer eastbound through the Walmart parking lot with the officer running after him. The suspect then ran on the onramp to the southbound Interstate 57 freeway, said Lieutenant Rob Lamborghini.

The suspect tried to run down the embankment, but was quickly apprehended by officers. The suspect was taken to Gladstone Street near the 57 freeway overpass to be examined by medics for an unknown reason.

The suspect was eventually taken to the Glendora Police Station where he was booked by officers.

Court date information was not available.
