Coastside children and adults of all ages are invited to join the fun at the 4th annual community-wide “Rock the Rink" roller skating and hockey event on Sunday, April 22. The celebration at the Boys and Girls Club rink at includes a free open skate, live music, SF Bulls ticket raffle, and exhibition hockey game.
The North Coast Hockey League (NCHL) is also inviting all Coastsiders to "Give Hockey a Try" Day, which begins at noon on Sunday, April 22. Modeled after USA Hockey's program, the NCHL will make available some free loaner gear, skates and sticks for children who would like to test their abilities on a regulation outdoor hockey rink.
This year's Rock the Rink celebration features live music from Half Moon Bay band Retorsion. The rock band features Shelly Holland singing lead vocals, Dylan Gallup on guitar and vocals, Bill Floyd on drums, and Daniel Shafir-Schorr on bass. The afternoon also includes an exhibition hockey game pitting a Pacifica team coached by Mike Hovermale against a Half Moon Bay squad coached by Jim Louderback.
Representatives from the San Francisco Bulls, the new professional ice hockey team that begins play at the Cow Palace in October, will also be on hand.
On the same day, boys and girls ages 5 to 15 can register to play in the 2012 NCHL summer season that runs June 3 - Aug. 5. Registration forms and online signups are available at http://www.CoastsideRollerHockey.com. The $140 registration fee includes 10 weeks of hockey, pictures, trophies, jerseys, in-game entertainment, and the NCHL's famous Gear Swap. Scholarships are available, along with discounts to families with more than one player.
On April 22, ‘Give Hockey a Try’ will run from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm. Rock the Rink festivities begin at 3:00 pm and end at 6:00 pm. The NCHL is a unit of the non-profit Coastside Youth Association and an affiliate of the Boys and Girls Club of the Coastside.
