Two Teens Killed, One Injured In Crash on Hwy 1 Near Sea Ranch
The CHP said 18-year-old Jhovani Gonzalez-Marquez and 14-year-old Aron Gonzalez-Marquez, both residents of the unincorporated community of Gualala in Mendocino County, were killed in the crash.
Based on the preliminary investigation, Jhovani Gonzalez-Marquez was driving a white 1996 Acura Integra north on Highway 1, just north of Annapolis Road, when he lost control of the car around a curve.
Officers received a report of the collision just after 4 a.m., the CHP said. Aron Gonzalez-Marquez was seated in the front passenger seat of the car and 17-year-old Pacific Woods resident Jason Alanis Marquez was seated in the backseat, the CHP said.
According to the CHP, the Acura was traveling too fast as it approached a right curve in the roadway.
After passing the curve, the Acura veered over the double yellow lines and began spinning counter clockwise. The CHP said the Acura went off the west side of the roadway sideways and struck a tree.
The car rolled slightly, crushing the interior cab of the Acura. Emergency personnel pronounced both Jhovani and Aron Gonzalez-Marquez deceased on scene, according to the CHP.
The backseat passenger was unconscious when paramedics arrived and was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital by helicopter.
The extent of his injuries has not been released.
The CHP said that alcohol has not been ruled out as a contributing factor in the collision.
