Man Found Unresponsive in Hotel Hot Tub

Police respond to a call Wednesday morning of a possible trespasser and find the subject in the hot tub. Fire department personnel declare the man dead at the scene.

Man Found Unresponsive in Hotel Hot Tub

A man found floating face down in a hot tub at the Quality Inn & Suites around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hermosa Beach Fire Department, said Sergeant Robert Higgins of the Hermosa Beach Police Department.

Police were summoned by a report of a possible trespasser in the hot tub area of the hotel at 901 Aviation Boulevard when they discovered the person, who was unresponsive.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of relatives but is said to be a 43-year-old man local transient with numerous prior police and medical contacts.

HBPD says that initial indications are that the death appears to be a tragic accident, and reports that empty alcohol containers were found at the scene. They also said the deceased has a history of alcohol and narcotic abuse.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
