Once Peter Tucker is appointed mayor Tuesday, some Hermosa Beach residents are hoping that the city, which Tucker oversaw as mayor four years ago, will focus on bettering its economy. The City Council approved a $27-million budget plan in June that helped it avoid a major deficit that would have led to tapping reserves and ordering layoffs.
Some Hermosans say they've noticed the price of public parking and parking tickets going up as a result of limited municipal funds. They're also worried about small businesses in the city that they see struggling. Other residents, however, say they're happy with where the local economy's heading.
