L34 Group's monthly cleanup of Debs Park in Montecito Heights was kick-started early last week with some help from some city of Los Angeles.

"L.A. Sewer Department came out on Monday and Tuesday with the trucks and loaders and cleaned up along Griffin where it floods when it rains," said L34 member Terry Dean.  "They also cleaned out the big storm drain that feeds all that water to the Arroyo. They have been trying to get that clean for years."

According to Dean, the Department of Public Works crew event went the extra mile of clearing brush and muck from the street that was clogging the drains, even though it wasn't technically their responsibility.

"Streets Services clean the street and Sewer does the drains, but they went ahead and cleaned the muck from the street as it would make no sense to clean the drain only to have the street muck plug it again. Good on those guys for just getting the job done."

On Saturday, when the monthly cleanup commenced, the volunteers received a helping hand from Council District 1 and the Department of Recreation and Parks.

"They came out on Saturday with hands in gloves to clean along Griffin nad the entrance to Debs Park," Dean said.
