Council District 1, with oversight from Los Angeles based arborist Tony Macias, trimmed a trio of ficus trees that surround Veterans Square Memorial on Wednesday afternoon.

Historic Highland Park Neighborhood Council member Trisha Gossett, who has been among the community members to spearhead a revitalization of the square, said that the trimming will allow more sunshine into the memorial and highlight new native plants that were recently placed in the area.

"It's gonna make the corner more visible and help a lot of the stuff we've planted grow and thrive," Gossett said.

What do you think of the square's new look?
