Your HLP Halloween To-Do List

Looking for something exciting to do this Halloween weekend? There are no shortage of events around Highland Park and Mount Washington.

From harvest festivals, to howling wolves, to canine costumes, Highland Park offers no shortage of Halloween activities this year.

Check out these events before hitting the streets for some trick-or-treating.

1) Magical Halloween at La Casita Verde

Where: La Casita Verde

When: Fri., Oct. 26. 6 p.m. 

What: This year's event promises "A night of thrills for kids aged 0 - 8," including magic & comedy by Sam Shazam, a haunted bouncy castle, a big prize raffle, creepy photo booth, dinner and treats and "Spooktivities."


2) The Carnival of the Howling Wolves

Where: Mount Washington Elementary Schoool

When: Sat., Oct. 27, 1-5 p.m.

What: It's an Halloween carnvial in the truest sense of the word, complete with music, popcorn, game booths, photo-ops, food booths and a haunted house. This year? Mount Washington PTA Vice President of Ways and Means Sharen Steele Herran promises the event will be even "bigger and better."

"This year 'Carnival Of The Howlin' Wolves' is sure to tantalize more, entertain greater and is going to be "Bigger & Better" all the way around.  The PTA and I are going to great lengths to ensure our fundraising efforts are 'Bigger & Better' each year so that our Mount Washington Elementary children will continue to enjoy an enriched education no matter what budget cuts or cut-backs are given to us," Steele-Herran said. "The vision...Our Children supported by Our Mountain will continue to 'Dream The Impossible...and make it happen!' year after year after year."


3) Spooky Story Time at POP-HOP

Where: POP-HOP Books and Print

When: Sun., Oct 28, 12:05 p.m.

What: The Pop-Hop invites community members to "bring your kids, bring their friends, bring the neighbor's kids, for classic and SPOOKY children's books read by Jessica Jill Turner & Friends."


4) Friends of Hermon Dog Park's Howl-o-Ween Dog Costume Contest

Where: The Hermon Dog Park at 5568 Via Marisol

When: Sun., Oct. 28. The costume contest begins at 4 p.m., to be preceded by a peanut butter lick-off contest at 3:45 p.m. Registration begins at 3 p.m.

What: Dogs large and small (and their owners) will square-off in a competition to determine the Arroyo's spookiest pooches. Categories include scariest, silliest, most original, cutest and best team.
