Fire Shuts Down Melrose Avenue

A stubborn fire tore through a vacant building in Hollywood Monday, forcing the closure of Melrose Avenue.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — Blazing fire destroyed a vacant building and shut down traffic on Melrose Avenue in Hollywood Monday afternoon.

The fire tore through the building and forced crews to retreat and battle the blaze from a protective position outside the building. The fire broke out at about 2:35 in the 4700 block of Melrose Avenue, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

It 87 firefighters nearly a half-hour to knock down the blaze, Humphrey said. No one was injured in the blaze and investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire.

The fire damaged multiple stories and forced crews to shut down Melrose Avenue between Western and Normandie avenues, Humphrey added.
