Deputies were called early Monday to investigate a report that six men were fighting in the 7200 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, in West Hollywood, according to sheriff's officials.
Witnesses told investigators that Brown and someone else were involved in an argument over a parking space and Brown punched the other man, officials said.
The men were separated following brief fisticuffs.
Brown was gone when deputies arrived, officials said, and investigators intend to contact him later.
According to the TMZ website, Brown fought with Frank Ocean -- a singer with whom he has had Twitter words in the past -- at a recording studio parking lot.
