Trash, weed and other unsightly items in a six-block radius in Hollywood were no match for a group of volunteers aiming to beautify the community Saturday, May 17.
Around 40 parents and children from Citizens of the World Silver Lake joined with the Volunteers of America and Councilman Mitch O’Farrell for a Community Cleanup day this past weekend. Garbage and overgrown plants were part of the challenge for the community which came together to beautify the neighborhood. Now the sidewalks and planters are free from debris and invasive plants for everyone in the city to enjoy.
Citizens of the World schools believe that students should be taught to be good stewards to their community. This cleanup day was one opportunity for students to get to know their neighbors. Neighbors welcomed the opportunity. Some neighbors even came out and thanked the children for their hard work.
