Vote on 'Bright Ideas' for LAUSD

Ideas from nine students, teachers and employees are put to a vote in the district's contest.

Vote on 'Bright Ideas' for LAUSD

What could help improve the Los Angeles Unified School District?

In the 'Bright Ideas' contest, the district put the question to its students, parents and employees.

The district whittled down 1,351 bright ideas down to nine based on "creativity, projected cost savings, ease in implementing, low start-up costs, realistic and achievable outcomes, reduction in administrative burden, no disruption to classroom instruction, best description of problem, solution and benefits."

Some of the ideas included an art show, online registration for kindgarteners and new students, selling district-branded and school-branded gifts through an apparel vendor and more.

There will be a total of $9,000 in grant prizes awarded to local schools of the winners' choosing funded by the Wasserman Foundation. One student, employee and parent winner will be chosen. Each will receive a trophy and choose an LAUSD school to receive the monetary award for the purchase of educational equipment and supplies.

Voting is open through midnight Friday.

Check out the ideas and vote on the LAUSD's website.
