PHOTOS: Night of 1,000 Brooks Street Zombies!

Trick-or-treaters were out in full force on Halloween night in Laguna Beach.

From a heavily-decorated Brooks Street porch, Mary Spease, Marlee Grosher, Lauri Kahn and Lique Hoskins were handing out candy to trick-or-treaters.

LOTS of candy.

"In the 36 years or so that I've lived here," said Hoskins, "it has grown to astronomical [numbers]. In the '70s, we gave out nickels and dimes when we ran out of candy, but there were only a couple of hundred kids. Those days are over. You better have 1,000 pieces of candy."

As far as the eye could see, swarms of tiny firefighters and ballerinas toddled up and down Brooks Street with their families. Road blocks are placed at the ends of the street to keep out motor traffic.

Sandy Martinez made the evening more interesting by enhancing his house with fog, props and lighting effects.

"We do it every year," said Martinez. "We have a seven-year-old son, so we've always done a haunted house."

Brooks Street residents Chris and Lloyd Ranabargar were in front of their house passing out candy. The couple agreed that they love seeing the people and all the little kids.

"It's Halloween! This is Brooks Street," said Lauri Kahn. "This is the ultimate three-block party. It's really fun."
