Rare Killer Whale Sighting off Laguna Beach Coastline

Dana Point Captain Dave's Whale Watching Adventures spotted a pod of rare killer whales or Orcas.

LAGUNA BEACH, CA — A pod of nearly 100 Orcas was spotted off the Laguna Beach coastline by Captain Dave Anderson on his morning whale watching safari on Dec. 20.

The pod of large dolphins were last seen off the coast of Long Beach on Dec. 19, and cruised toward Catalina according to Capt. Dave.

"They went out toward Catalina, and we were hoping to see them and here they are," he said.

The Dolphin and Whale Safari was broadcast live at 9 a.m. during the whale watching safari.

"There were several orcas fluking and surfacing," he said. "This was so cool, you don't get to see killer whales too often. They just decided to come right over in front of us."
