A New Name for Gateway Plan?

Laguna Niguel officials may call the future urban village "Crossings."

A New Name for Gateway Plan? A New Name for Gateway Plan?

Laguna Niguel's City Council and Planning Commission held a public workshop Oct. 29 to review a new name and sign design concepts for the Gateway area, a 315-acre parcel between the 5 Freeway and 73 toll road.

The city’s sign consultant, Hunt Design, presented three concepts and the name Crossings for consideration, according to the city.

The ideas of Crossings comes from the various roadways and rail line in this area of the city, including Crown Valley Parkway, Cabot Road and the Paseo De Colinas Loop.

Gateway is envisioned as a vibrant pedestrian and transit-oriented urban village.

Comments from the public, City Council and Planning Commission resulted in the elimination of one design concept. Other comments included the desire to place more emphasis on “Laguna Niguel” as part of the overall sign designs, according to the city.

Based on comments at the meeting, refinements will be made to Concepts B and C (illustrated below) which will be considered at a future public workshop, the city says.
