Fatal 4s Ranch Car Crash Victim's Name Released

The suspected drunk driver suffered major injuries in the crash and was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla.

SAN DIEGO, CA – Authorities on Monday publicly identified a 38-year-old woman killed when a suspected drunken driver headed the wrong way slammed into her car on a street in the 4S Ranch area.

Sarita Shakya of San Diego was behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla that was struck head-on by an eastbound Toyota Sienna minivan on westbound Camino Del Norte near Camino San Bernardo late Saturday night, according to the California Highway Patrol and the county Medical Examiner's Office. Paramedics were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The minivan's driver, a 34-year-old woman whose name has not been made public, suffered major injuries in the crash and was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. She was placed under arrest at the hospital on suspicion of drunk driving causing injury, and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to the CHP.
