Scripps Celebrates Therapy Dogs with 'Pawliday' Party
Scripps threw a holiday party for its therapy dogs and their handlers who visit patients at Scripps hospitals.
They were the guests of honor at this special holiday party at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. They were the therapy pet dogs and their handlers who visit patients at Scripps hospitals and help lift up their moods by providing comfort and companionship. Staff and patients love their volunteer work and throw them a holiday party every year at Scripps La Jolla.
Friday’s rainy weather did not dampen the mood of the ”Pawliday” party as staff moved it to a covered patio next to Schaetzel Center. There, the furry friends mingled and munched on holiday treats while their handlers feasted on hot dogs and chips and did some socializing of their own.
Throughout the year, more than 60 certified therapy dogs provide comfort and companionship by visiting patients across Scripps Health. At the ”Pawliday” party, Jill Newell, Scripps volunteer services manager, praised the therapy pets and their handlers for everything they do to help patients feel better. Scripps La Jolla Chaplain John Whitacre conducted the traditional blessing of the pets.
