Fire At Perris Recycling Yard Sends Large Smoke Plume Through Region [UPDATED]
BREAKING: A large, black column of smoke was visible throughout Southwest Riverside County.

PERRIS, CA — Firefighters battled a brush and structure fire in the Perris area Wednesday afternoon, Cal fire officials report. The blaze was reported shortly after 11:15 a.m. in the 300 block of Ellis Avenue, but crews appeared to have it under control within an hour.
“The first arriving engine company reported one acre of light vegetation with extension into a recycle yard,” agency officials said when the incident was first reported.
40 firefighters were dispatched to the scene. At 12:14 p.m., fire officials said the forward progress of the blaze had been stopped "in a large storage area" of the recycling center.

Crews were expected to remain at the scene for about six hours.
