A Toyota Camry that crashed into a Southern California Edison ground transformer Saturday night in Perris left some in the city without power, police are reporting.
The solo-vehicle crash, called in shortly after 8 p.m. at the intersection of Gallant Fox and Perris Boulevard, is still under investigation, but a sergeant reported that when officers arrived on scene they discovered the wreck had caused power outages to nearby residential areas.
Southbound traffic lanes at the intersection of Gallant Fox and Perris Boulevard were shut down as a result of the crash, according to Sgt. Frank Lodes.
"The preliminary investigation revealed a white Toyota Camry was traveling south on Perris Boulevard when it lost control and collided into the transformer. The driver of the Camry was not injured and alcohol is not believed to be a factor," Lodes reported.
"Personnel from Southern California Edison responded to the scene to repair the damaged transformer," the sergeant added. "Southbound traffic lanes were later re-opened on Perris Boulevard."
