During Tuesday night’s regularly scheduled meeting, Peter Weber was sworn into council office and council members voted 4-0 to appoint Brian Tisdale as mayor.

The Lake Elsinore City Council has a new mayor and a vacant dais seat has been officially filled. 

During Tuesday night’s regularly scheduled meeting, was sworn into council office and council members voted 4-0 to appoint as mayor.

The appointments come after a tumultuous two months for the city. , leaving a vacant council seat. The process for appointing a resident to fill the vacancy saw , , , and final that Weber was the best qualified to take the seat.

, council members voted 3-1 to appoint Weber; Tisdale was the lone dissenter.

But with the turmoil of recent weeks behind them, council members appeared united Tuesday night. They had been holding off on appointing a new mayor until the vacancy was filled. So with Weber officially seated, Mayor Pro Tem Bob Magee made the motion to appoint Tisdale as mayor, and councilwoman Melissa Melendez seconded. The motion passed unanimously, with Councilman Daryl Hickman absent Tuesday night.

Two of the city’s more tenured council members, and are both vying for State Assembly next year. But between campaigning and fund raising, the two candidates and the rest of the Lake Elsinore City Council have much work in front of them, especially with public meetings and a subsequent vote expected late this year on the

But Tisdale said the council is ready to move forward.

“I believe in this city,” he said during his closing statements Tuesday.

, who works for the Riverside County Department of Public Health's Emergency Preparedness and Response unit, was elected to the council last year.

Weber served as the city’s treasurer from 2004 to 2008 and currently works as a manager with ReadyPac Inc. His term on the council expires November 2012.
